Ideas for Building Vocabulary
The difference in vocabulary throughout the Early Years is huge. From using around 20 words at 18 months, children develop a vocabulary of around 2500 words when they reach five years old.
The language skills children develop is a good indicator of later literacy achievement. As we work in the Early Years to develop vocabulary, we are sowing the seeds early on for their learning.
